Here There Be Dragons
I went up to the upper McKenzie River this past Wednesday and spent some time along the river trail taking some photographs with my 4×5. I haven’t had the film processed yet but I do have some images I took with my Nikon. I use my D200 as a light meter and to get shots when I don’t have time to set up my big camera. Sometimes the light changes so fast I don’t have time to get my 4×5 setup. But until I get my film back and scanned, I have this:

Thank you for your positive comments! I really appreciate the feedback. This root formation was found along the McKenzie River trail, 70 miles east of Springfield, Oregon, in the Cascade Mountain range. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that it was my wife who discovered it. It’s one of my favorite spots to make photographs and we had both went up there one day to enjoy the river and have a nice picnic and while I was looking for a god spot to photograph the river she suddenly yells out, “Honey come here, you’ve got to see this.” I’ve now photographed this four times with my 4×5 film camera. It took me several tries to get it the way I wanted it. I’ve just gotten my last one scanned and will be posting the definitive shot in the next couple of days. Watch for it.
Will do! I LOVE LOVE LOVE discovering random crazy formations in roots, tree trunks, rocks, geological features, etc. There’s this redwood I call the “Goblin Tree” at a redwood state park here in the SF Bay Area because it has a goblin face burl-type formation!
